Our Campaign

Our campaign

The COVID-19 pandemic has been one of the most distressing events to impact higher education. As ASUM candidates, and as fellow students, we are keenly aware of the disruption to students’ ability to learn and access to services.

We acknowledge that these are unprecedented times that have dramatically changed our daily lives, keeping our campus community safe is of paramount importance. While the uncertainty can be unsettling, we believe that we will get through this together and emerge stronger.

The global pandemic has emphasized now more than ever how important it is for students to be led by an ASUM President and Vice-President who will support them and advocate for their health and wellness. Having access to resources can make or break an academic career, and no student should have to feel ashamed for asking for help.

We are running for ASUM to represent all students, solve problems, work together to create a shared vision, and increase opportunities to benefit our campus community. Students want to know that they have a student government that looks out for them; we are running for ASUM because we care.

Meet Morgan

Candidate for ASUM President

Pronouns: He/Him/His

Hey Grizzlies! I’m from Polson, Montana and a second-year Communication Studies (Major) and Business Administration (Minor). I started as a Political Science major at another university, but eventually came to UM and Missoula College to study Organizational Communication and Marketing.

I’m running for ASUM President and committed to leading our student government as we adapt to the impacts of COVID-19. Alongside my fellow students, I want to create a shared vision for our campus community and increase financial opportunities so more students can find meaningful income while in school. I will work tirelessly, empathetically, and compassionately to advocate for students needs.

I am an ASUM Senator and involved with a variety of campus committees, as well as student groups and community organizations that tackle tough issues, such as domestic violence, food insecurity, and climate change. Additionally, I work with the UM Financial Education Program and the Office of Student Success to help educate and direct students to all the resources available to them.

I'm really excited to connect and get to know all of you throughout this campaign. I'm ready to work across boundaries and barriers to make the University of Montana and Missoula the campus and community we want it to be!

Meet Emma

Candidate for ASUM Vice-President

Pronouns: She/Her/Hers

Hi Grizzlies! I'm Emma Kiefer. I’m from Bend, Oregon and have nearly completed a double-major in Environmental Studies and Political Science, with a minor in Climate Change Studies, on track to graduate this spring. I'm a prospective Environmental Studies graduate student for fall 2020.

I’m running to be ASUM Vice-President and passionately committed to sustainability. I will advocate for new practices and policies on our campus. I’ve developed a 𝑮𝒓𝒆𝒆𝒏 𝑪𝒂𝒎𝒑𝒖𝒔 𝑰𝒏𝒊𝒕𝒊𝒂𝒕𝒊𝒗𝒆 to act as our our blueprint to hold university leadership accountable to ensure a better tomorrow.

As someone who has dedicated their undergraduate career to environmental causes, students will know that when I discuss sustainability issues that I’m serious. Sustainability often gets pushed to the sidelines, and I don’t want to see that happen again.

Students want to know that leadership isn’t just in the position of power for a good line on their resume, but they’re there because they whole-heartedly want to serve the student body to their best ability. I want to continue to promote accessibility for all students, and foster a culture of diversity and inclusion at UM. In my free time, I love kickboxing, roller skating, photography, and hanging out with my cats.

We want to hear from you!
